Hernández ruins Moncada’s Fenway visit, Stroman takes in N.Y., Machado returns to Baltimore

Yoán enjoys fenway

Yoán Moncada was once the Red Sox’s top prospect. Boston traded him to the White Sox for Chris Sale, however, and Moncada is now having a very good season for Chicago. Moncada returned to Boston on Monday and hit a home run at Fenway Park for the first time.

Boston Walkoff

Marco Hernández made his only at-bat count, giving the Red Sox a 6-5 win over the White Sox at Fenway. Hernández’s effort was rewarded with a Gatorade shower.

Pro Post of the Day

The Padres are in Baltimore on Tuesday and Wednesday, the first time Manny Machado will play a game in Baltimore as a visitor. The $300 million man posted a video on Instagram before his return. Will he be as well received as Albert Pujols was in St. Louis?

Fan Post of the Day

Camaraderie is a great part of being on a team. These guys look like they’re ready to play another nine innings.

OTD

2002 – For the first time in major league history two managers born in the Dominican Republic faced each other. Tony Peña of the Royals and Luis Pujols of the Tigers managed a game that was broadcast throughout Latin America. Dominican Republic president Hipolito Mejia attended.  Peña’s Royals won 8-6.

1999 – Future Hall of Famer Randy Johnson struck out the 2,500th batter of his career but took the 1-0 loss to the Cardinals. José Jiménez became the first rookie to throw a no-hitter since Wilson Álvarez in 1991. He was the first National League rookie to throw a no-no since 1972 and the first Cardinal to toss a no-hitter since 1983.

1998 – Sammy Sosa hit his 19th home run in the month of June, breaking Rudy York’s 1937 major league record for home runs in a month.

1995 – Rockies first baseman Andrés Galarraga became the fourth major leaguer to hit a home run in three consecutive innings. “Big Cat” went yard in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings against the Padres. He had seven RBI in an 11-3 win.
