Jose Romero

Jose Romero

One of the first baseball games Jose Romero ever saw in person was at Dodger Stadium when Fernando Valenzuela was pitching, and from there — and from countless Portland Beavers minor-league games in his native Oregon — a love for the game took hold. Jose decided at an early age to find a career in sports media, and he’s now 20-plus years into that career. He was part of the coverage team for the 2001 Seattle Mariners and their 116-win season, and after 11 years with the Seattle Times found a new home and a place to continue his work in Phoenix. Since moving there in 2010, Jose has covered spring training every year for the Associated Press, and countless Diamondbacks, Phoenix Suns, Arizona Coyotes and Arizona Cardinals games. He’s also freelanced for ESPN, Major League Soccer, Fox Deportes, MLB.com and the Arizona Republic, and teaches a sports writing class at Arizona State. When not working, Jose follows his Oregon Ducks and spends quality time with his family of five.
