Carlos González spent ten terrific years wearing purple in Colorado. On Monday he returned to Denver for the first time wearing the red and blue of the Chicago Cubs. CarGo received a welcome the one-time Rockies hero deserved.
The Cubs recognized CarGo’s significance to Rockies fans as well.

2012 – The Chicago Cubs signed Cuban defector Jorge Soler to a nine-year, $30 million contract.
1999 – In a 12-6 Oakland victory over the Dodgers, Miguel Tejada becomes the tenth player in big league history to hit three home runs in a game while playing shortstop. Tejada drove in five runs.
1993 – The Mets traded shortstop Tony Fernández to the Blue Jays in exchange for outfielder Darrin Jackson.
1969 – The Montreal Expos traded infielder Paul Popovich to the Cubs for pitcher Jack Lamabe and outfielder Adolfo Phillips. Phillips infamously shakes hands with everyone in the clubhouse except manager Leo Durocher on his way out.
1967 – The Cubs swept the Mets in a doubleheader at Wrigley Field, 5-3 and 18-10. The teams combined to set a National League record with 11 home runs and tie an NL mark with 40 extra base hits in the second game. Adolfo Phillips hit four home runs among his six hits on the day and drove in eight runs for Chicago.
1965 – St. Louis traded pitchers Ron Taylor and Mike Cuellar to the Astros for pitcher Hal Woodeshick.
