What an historic day. Mariano Rivera became the first player elected unanimously by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Edgar Martínez was finally elected on his last year on the ballot.
Canaleros were feliz.
Boricuas were feliz.
WE were feliz.
The praise for Mo and Gar rained down from all over. Former teammates, mentees, elected officials, sports franchises, heck, even Metallica sent their congrats. In today’s El Bullpen, we bring to you some of our favorite moments and reactions to yesterday’s announcement.

Mariano Rivera had an impact on a countless number of people, but I was probably one of the most fortunate. I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without sitting next to him for so many years. Thanks for everything Mo. No one deserves it more.

Two of the greatest teammates I ever played with. It was a true honor to share the field with Edgar Martinez ad Mariano Rivera. Congratulations with your induction into the Hall of Fame. Truly amazing!

What a #HOF2019 class! Congrats to my brother, Mariano Riviera, on becoming the first player to be elected unanimously. So happy for all four inductees, including my mentor Edgar Martinez, my teammate Mike Mussina and the late Roy Halladay, one of the best I ever faced.

Everybody in
Everyone in Seattle and New York joined the celebration, from the NFL teams in each city to politicians, the transit system in Seattle and, of course, Metallica. Even though they’re not on Mo’s playlist, they’re still thrilled for him to be headed to the Hall.

The Governor of Puerto Rico happily added Edgar to his island’s HOF list; there are now five Boricuas in the Hall.

And, finally, Jimmy Traina shared one of the moments Yankees – indeed, baseball – fans will remember forever.
