OTD
2018 – The Rangers turned an extremely rare triple play in which all three outs were baserunners – not the batter – something not seen since 1912. The official scoring on the play was 5-4, from third baseman Jurickson Profar to second baseman Rougned Odor.
2008 – Miguel Montero and Chris Young each hit their first career grand slams as the Diamondbacks beat the Astros 11-5. This marked the first time in DBax history the team hit two grand slams in one game.
2002 – Pedro Martinez‘s 35-inning scoreless streak ended as the Twins beat the Red Sox 5-0.
1999 – Alex Rodriguez homered for the fifth straight game.
1999 – The Reds’ Juan Guzman had to leave his start in Pittsburgh after seven innings because his shoes were too small. After he was traded to the Reds, he arrived with only his size 10 1/2 orange and black Orioles shoes. Puma sent him a size 9 1/2 in red which led to blisters and an early exit.
1988 – The Dodgers traded Pedro Guerrero to the Cardinals for pitcher John Tudor, who was leading the National League with a 2.29 ERA.
1978 – Boston’s Luis Tiant won his 200th major league game, beating Nolan Ryan and the Angels 4-2.
