A Big Papi anniversary, Hall support and Gleyber feeds the animals

Martínez’s wife offers thanks for support

Edgar Martínez has been nonchalant in his Hall of Fame candidacy. Holli, his wife, though, has been advocating for his election and offered thanks on Monday night for all the support. We’ll see if her patience and support is rewarded.

Edgar & Mariano’s duels

Mariano Rivera was as close to lights out as a hurler can get. Nearly half of the 993 hitters who faced him, failed to record a hit. Almost two-thirds of them hit .200 or worse against Mo. But there was one hitter who had Rivera’s number – Edgar Martínez. Martínez was 11-for-19 against Rivera, the best of anyone who faced him more than five times. In a few hours, both might be elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Rangers sign Cabrera

The Texas Rangers have reportedly agreed to terms with venezolano Asdrúbal Cabrera on a one-year deal. Cabrera slashed .262/.316/.458 with 23 jonrones with Philadelphia.

More Yadi comments

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina had more to say on the back-and-forth between him and Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant. Molina was pretty excited when he found out the Cardinals acquired Paul Goldschmidt. How excited? Well, let’s just say he was probably glad there were cervezas on hand.

Pro Post of the Day

Peloteros appreciate their time off. They try new things, visit new places and catch up with family. Gleyber Torres used his vacay to feed giraffes and nearly had his head taken off for his efforts. Luckily for fans of the Bronx bomber, he avoided injury.

 Fan Post of the Day

The championship series of the Dominican Winter League is seemingly the Estrellas Orientales to lose. The Estrellas beat Toros del Este 3-2 on Monday night to take a 3-0 series lead in the best-of-nine championship. This fan shared an awesome video of the stadium as the Estrellas grabbed the final out of the game. ¡Que magnifico!

 Happy Birthday!

Carlos Ruiz, former Philadelphia Phillies catcher (b. 1979).
Ubaldo Jiménez, 12-year big leaguer (b. 1984).
Ramón Torres, Royals infielder (b. 1993).
