1974 – César Gerónimo earned the distinction of being the 3,000th strikeout in the career of Cardinals legend Bob Gibson. Gerónimo also became Nolan Ryan’s 3,000th strikeout victim six years later.

1971 – The Giants wasted a gem by Hall of Famer Juan Marichal. “The Dominican Dandy” allowed only one hit in eight innings but the Reds rallied for three in the ninth, capped by a two-run single by Tony Pérez.

1970 – Roberto Clemente hit his 150th career triple as part of a big offensive performance that was a double shy of the cycle. Clemente’s triple tied the game in the sixth. He hit a go-ahead home run in the eighth.
