In his second game back off the injured list, Nelson Cruz made a statement against the White Sox. Cruz hit a home run and a career-high three doubles, making him the first Twins player with four extra base hits in a game since Michael Cuddyer in 2005.

Ronald Acuña Jr. was hit by the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning on Tuesday. The Braves have seen the Marlins throw at their best player far too often.
Leading off with a bang
George Springer now owns the Houston Astros franchise record for home runs to lead off a game in a season (10). Only four players – Alfonso Soriano (13 in 2003, 12 in 2007), Brady Anderson (12 in 1996), Bobby Bonds (11 in 1973) and Jacque Jones (11 in 2002) – have hit more homers to begin a contest in a season since 1908.

1948 – At a meeting in Havana, representatives of Cuba, Panama, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela agree to a round-robin tournament that came to be known as the Serie del Caribe (Caribbean Series), which was initially played in Cuba in February 1949.
1974 – Rogelio Moret threw a one-hitter against the White Sox, striking out 14 batters in the process. Moret was rewarded with a new contract from the Red Sox.
1991 – Bernie Williams struck out in five consecutive at bats, tying the major league mark for a 9-inning game. In major league history 28 other players had struck out five times in a row, including Yankees hitting coach Frank Howard.
2003 – A’s shortstop Miguel Tejada started his 559th straight game, an Oakland franchise record.
2003 – Vladimir Guerrero hit his 226th career home run, breaking Andre Dawson’s Expos record.
2011 – Alex Rodriguez and Jim Thome became the first members of the 600 home run club to appear in the same contest since Willie Mays and Hank Aaron 38 years prior.
