Royal Reception
The Yankees won both historic games in London over the Red Sox. The teams met royalty before Saturday’s game and had some famous fans in attendance.
Luis Cessa was thrilled to meet one of his favorites from the pitch, Mexican soccer legend Javier “El Chicharito” Hernandez, who wore a Yankees cap.
Edwin Encarnación became the first player in history to play a major league game on three different continents in one season. He played in Asia with the Mariners earlier this year and added Europe to his passport this weekend.
All-Star Reaction
The full rosters for the 2019 All-Star Game were named on Sunday. The American and National Leagues have some new faces in the fold, including Toronto’s Marcus Stroman and Miami’s Sandy Alcántara.
Alcantara was excited to earn the recognition.
The Reds showed their appreciation for ace Luis Castillo earning a trip to Cleveland.
Houston’s Carlos Correa congratulated a couple of his countrymen.
Derby bound
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who was a smile child when his father won the Home Run Derby, will bring a familiar coach to Cleveland for the Home Run Derby.

2016 – The Indians made team history the hard way. Cleveland won for the 14th consecutive game, a new franchise record. Carlos Santana hit the game-winning home run in the 19th inning to beat the Blue Jays 2-1. Santana’s blast came off infielder Darwin Barney.
2015 – Carlos Carrasco of the Indians came within one strike of pitching a no-hitter. Tampa’s Joey Butler lined a two-out, two-strike pitch in the ninth to break up the no-no.
2003 – The White Sox traded pitchers Royce Ring and Edwin Almonte and infielder Andrew Salvo to the Mets for Roberto Alomar. Roberto joins his brother, Sandy Jr., on Chicago’s south side.
1999 – Brewers shortstop José Valentin hit a two-run home run from each side of the plate to lead Milwaukee past the Cubs 19-12.
1973 – Boston’s Luis Aparicio stole the 500th base of his career, the highest total in the American League since Eddie Collins retired in 1930.
1972 – Roberto Clemente hit two dramatic home runs against another future Hall of Famer, the Cubs’ Ferguson Jenkins. His first in the seventh tie the score. The second was a walk-off shot in the ninth to beat Chicago.
1951 – Minnie Miñoso hit a 400-foot home run to left-center field to give the White Sox a 2-1 win in the first game of a doubleheader against the Browns.
