Robert’s huge debut, an El Mago superfan, Teheran fashion statement
By Tab Bamford
Prime Time Debut
White Sox outfield prospect Luis Robert made his Triple-A debut with Charlotte on Thursday night. His first hit of the night was a big one.
His second hit of the game traveled 428 feet.
When the dust settled on Robert’s debut, he had driven in a career-high seven runs with two homers. Maybe Chicago isn’t that far off.
Triple-A power
Rockies prospect Roberto Ramos and Padres prospect Luis Urías represented Mexico well in the Triple-A All-Star Game earlier this week.
Happy third
Edwin Díaz wished his son a happy third birthday. That’s a good looking jersey!
Big Papi recovering
David Ortiz had another surgery earlier this week in Boston as he works his way back from a gunshot wound suffered in June.
Pro Post of the Day
Braves starter Julio Teheran was feeling his color combination. How do you feel about the black and yellow?
Fan Post of the Day
Based on this reaction it’s hard to argue against him being the number one fan of El Mago.
OTD
2011 – The Milwaukee Brewers acquired closer Francisco Rodríguez from the Mets for two players to be named later.
2010 – David Ortiz won the Home Run Derby. Ortiz hit 32 total home runs – 11 in the final round – to defeat Hanley Ramírez for the crown.
2005 – Bobby Abreu set a new record with 41 home runs en route to winning the Home Run Derby in Detroit.
1997 – Francisco Córdova and Ricardo Rincón combined to throw a 10-inning no-hitter as the Pirates beat the Astros, 3-0, in front of 44,119 fans. The game was Pittsburgh’s first non-Opening Day sellout since 1977.
1990 – Mélido Pérez of the White Sox threw a six-inning no-hitter against the Yankees. Chicago was up 8-0 before the rain came.
1968 – Al López replaced Eddie Stanky as manager of the White Sox.
1949 – The American League won the All-Star Game 11-7. This was the first time black players appeared in an All-Star Game: Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella and Don Newcombe were in the NL lineup, and Larry Doby represented the AL.
Happy birthday!
