Molina moves up, don’t run on Ronald, community work for the ‘Lins

Yadi’s big night

Yadier Molina now ranks 10th all-time in games caught. He put on the gear for the 1,919th time Tuesday night.

Molina made the night more memorable with two home runs, leading the Cardinals to a big divisional victory.

A rain delay? With a dome?

Molina’s performance wasn’t the only noticeable part of the Cardinals-Brewers game. Apparently the weather report for Milwaukee wasn’t accurate and the game was delayed.

Don’t run on Ronald

Ronald Acuña Jr. showed off one of his five tools – his arm – on Tuesday night.

Marlins giving back

A group of Marlins players spent time distributing food and sharing life lessons with kids in the community.

Robert Robbery

White Sox prospect Luis Robert made a statement to start the Charlotte Knights’ game.

Reyes, Pérez power Indians

The Indians received the news Tuesday that José Ramírez could miss the rest of the regular season after having hand surgery. They didn’t let that slow their offense. Franmil Reyes and Roberto Pérez did the heavy lifting in a much-needed victory.

OTD

2014 – San Francisco’s Yusmeiro Petit retired the first eight Rockies batters of the game, giving him a major league record 46 consecutive outs recorded dating back to July 22nd. The previous record of 45 was set by Mark Buehrle in 2009.

2003 – José Reyes, 20, became the youngest player in major league history to hit a home run from both sides of the plate in one game.

2002 – Odális Pérez became the first pitcher since Bob Welch in 1983 (and the 12th ever) to hit a solo home run for the only run of the game. The Dodgers beat the Diamondbacks 1-0.

2001 – Alex Rodriguez became the ninth player, and the second shortstop, in major league history to hit 40 home runs in four consecutive seasons. Cubs Hall of Famer Ernie Banks was the only other shortstop.

2001 – Sammy Sosa hit his 52nd home run of the season, giving him 343 home runs over a seven season span. That tied Babe Ruth for the most homers in seven consecutive seasons; Ruth hit 343 between 1926 and 1932.

1998 – Juan González, Will Clark, and Iván Rodríguez hit successive home runs in the fourth inning of the Rangers’ 6-5 win over the White Sox in the first game of a double header.

1996 – Vinny Castilla became the fourth Rockies slugger to reach 100 RBI, joining teammates Andres Galarraga, Ellis Burks, and Dante Bichette. The last time a team had four players with 100 RBI on the same roster happened twice, the Cubs and Phillies, in 1929.

1991 – In the first matchup of pitchers who had thrown a perfect game in 25 years, Cincinnati’s Tom Browning defeated Montreal’s Dennis Martinez, 11-3. The last time two perfect game hurlers had faced off came on Oct. 2, 1966 between Sandy Koufax and Jim Bunning.

1970 – Juan Marichal beat the Pirates 5-1 to earn his 200th major league win. Marichal and Jim Bunning were the only active pitchers with 200 wins.
