Yadi shows Blues love, Vladi Jr. flashes glove, Acuña shows respect

Yadi feeling Blues

As Cardinals faced the rival Cubs this weekend, Yadier Molina arrived at the Busch Stadium showing some love to the Blues, who were playing Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final six blocks away Saturday. Molina might be in the injured list but he’s still on board with the Blues.

Vladi Jr. flashes Leather

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. showed off his defense over the weekend. Nice play! We have to wonder where he got that arm strength from.

Respecting his elders

Ronald Acuña Jr. is one of the better young players from Venezuela in the majors. But when he had the chance to show some respect to Miguel Cabrera over the weekend he made sure to do it.

Another Boricua shortstop?

José Berríos showed off his range defensively this weekend as well. On Instagram he openly advocated for some run at shortstop for Puerto Rico in the next World Baseball Classic, going as far as tagging his buddies Javier Báez and Francisco Lindor in the post. With those two and Carlos Correa all fighting for that position on the roster, Berríos might be fighting an uphill battle.

OTD

2017 – Albert Pujols becomes the ninth player in big league history to hit 600 career home runs. The blast, a fourth inning grand slam off Twins’ starter Ervin Santana, leads the Angels to a 7-2 victory.

2017 – Marlins starter Edinson Volquez almost faced just one batter. He twisted an ankle on the first play of the game but stayed in and threw the first no-hitter of the 2017 season, defeating the Diamondbacks 3-0. He walked two batters but they were erased via the double play, allowing Volquez to face the minimum 27 batters.

2013 – Yasiel Puig makes his major league debut a memorable performance. The Cuban outfielder has two hits and makes a strong throw from right field to complete a game-ending double play as the Dodgers defeat the Padres 2-1.

2012- Marlins starter Carlos Zambrano hits his 24th career home run, tying him with Bob Gibson for second-most long balls by a pitcher in the post-1962 era, nine behind Earl Wilson.

2003 – Cubs outfielder Sammy Sosa is ejected in the 1st inning after umpires find cork in his shattered bat. The Cubs defeated the Rays 3-2.

1995 – Montreal’s Pedro Martínez pitches nine perfect innings against San Diego before giving up a leadoff double to Bip Roberts in the 10th inning. Martínez joins Harvey Haddix as the only two pitchers in history to have a perfect game broken up in extra innings. The Expos won the game 1-0.

1993 – With the first pick in the first round of the 1993 MLB June Amateur Draft the Seattle Mariners select high school shortstop Alex Rodriguez.

1969 – Roberto Clemente ties the game with a three-run home run in the sixth inning. The hit is the 2,417th of The Great One’s career, moving him past Max Carey and Pie Traynor into third place on the Pirates’ all-time hits list.
