A Guillén first, an Alomar birthday, postgame in Atlanta
By Tab Bamford
Proud Papa
Our friend Ozzie Guillén visited his son, Ozney, on Monday as the Tri-City ValleyCats opened their 2019 season. Ozney is the first year manager of Tri-City, the short-season Single-A level affiliate of the Houston Astros.
The ValleyCats won their first game of the season with a walk-off, giving the younger Guillén his first win as a manager. Congrats, Ozney!
Atlanta’s postgame show
Ozzie Albies wanted to stay dry long enough to finish his interview after the Braves’ win on Monday. Ronald Acuña Jr. had other ideas.
A Copa Crown
Minor League Baseball and La Vida Baseball are asking fans which cap for the 2019 Copa de la Diversión is the best. On Monday’s La Vida Baseball Live! we drew the names to create the first round matchups. Voting begins on Monday, June 24.
No appeal necessary
Manny Machado was suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount “for aggressively arguing and making contact with umpire Bill Welke” during Saturday’s loss to the Colorado Rockies. He appealed the suspension Monday, allowing him to play – and hit this long home run.
Pro Post of the Day
Sandy Alomar Jr. celebrates his 53rd birthday today. Over the weekend, Sandy and his brother, Hall of Famer Roberto, shared this great photo to wish their father, Sandy Sr., a happy Father’s Day.
Fan Post of the Day
We’re impressed with the leg kick, but how about the backdrop? That looks like somewhere we’d want to watch a game!

2002 – An interleague game between the Cubs and Rangers marked the first time in major league history four players with at least 400 career home runs appeared in the same game: Chicago’s Sammy Sosa and Fred McGriff and Texas’ Rafael Palmeiro and Juan González. The Cubs won 4-3.
1977 – After Yankees manager Billy Martin removes right fielder Reggie Jackson from a game for not hustling defensively the two get into an infamous confrontation in the visitors dugout at Fenway Park as a national television audience watches.
