Old Timers Day Mo, El Mago hits 100, Dodgers rookies make history

Old Timer Mo

Mariano Rivera will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in a few short weeks. Over the weekend he showed there’s still a little left in the tank at the Yankees’ Old Timers Game. How about an inside-the-park home run for the GOAT?

El Mago reaches 100

José Berríos was excited for his brother-in-law to reach a significant milestone on Sunday.

Javier Báez became the sixth-youngest player from Puerto Rico to reach 100 career home runs.

Rookie history

On Friday the Dodgers won on a walk-off home run by rookie Matt Beaty. Another rookie, Alex Verdugo, hit a walkoff on Saturday, making the Dodgers the first team in history to win back-to-back games on walk-off home runs.

Déjà vu.

Two wasn’t enough, however. Rookie Will Smith hit a homer on Sunday to make it three in a row.

Closing party

We’re 100 percent here for bat flips, fist pumps and hats to the side. When Thyago Vieira picked up a save for the Charlotte Knights this weekend he channeled his inner James Brown.

Pro Post of the Day

Yasiel Puig is a man of his word.

I once made a promise to God that if He ever lifted me up I would lift others up with me. Last year, I made a promise to open up a home that would never turn away a child in need. I come back tomorrow to the city of San Fernando to make good on that promise. Puig’s House in Pioneer Park will have programs available for children and families to help them live better lives. Join me at 4 PM tomorrow at Pioneer Park in the city of San Fernando for the groundbreaking of Puig’s House. Special thank you to @eric.delvalle.694 and SAA Interiors and Design. Plus a big hug to @__lisettemaria__, @bhscouncil , and all of the @officialcityofsanfernando officials and employees that have worked hard all year to help me make this happen.

Fan Post of the day

A former MVP turned into a fan over the weekend. We’re with you, ARod. Pujols is bigger than baseball.

OTD

2013 – Rookie Yasiel Puig hit his seventh home run in 20 games and drove in the game-winning run as the Dodgers beat the Giants 3-1.

2005 – The Mets became the first National League team to hit three sacrifice flies in one inning. Two Yankees errors, including Bernie Williams dropping a José Reyes sac fly that should have been the third out, opened the door for history. Ramon Castro, Reyes and Mike Cameron were credited with the sacrifices.

1996 – On Oh! Henry candy bar day in Montreal, Henry Rodríguez hit two home runs to lead the Expos to an 11-3 win over the Pirates. The two homers pull Rodríguez into a tie for the National League lead with 25.

Happy birthday!
