Baseball remembers Skaggs, A-Rod visits Wimbledon

Baseball Mourns
The baseball world was stunned on Monday afternoon when news broke that 27-year-old Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs had passed away. Players, front office executives, fans and leagues offered their condolences on social media. Albert Pujols shared words about a teammate.
Angels pitcher Noé Ramirez lost a friend.
Manny Machado was one of dozens of opponents to share his sadness on Instagram.
And Astros star José Altuve was heartbroken.
A-Rod and McEnroe
Alex Rodriguez was in London to call the Yankees-Red Sox game on Sunday for ESPN. A day later, he took a quick trip to watch tennis at Wimbledon. Eventually A-Rod found himself into the booth with another legend, John McEnroe.
Oh Canada
The Blue Jays celebrated Canada Day in red jerseys. They beat the Royals 11-4 behind two home runs from Freddy Galvis and three runs each from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
Another defection
Norge Vera became the latest player to reportedly leave the Cuban national team while in the United States. Phil Selig shared this photo of the young player.

2013 – The Cubs traded pitcher Scott Feldman to the Baltimore Orioles for pitchers Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop.
2004 – Al Pedrique became the second Venezuelan to manage in the big leagues when the Diamondbacks named him the replacement for Bob Brenly. Pedrique had been Brenly’s third base coach.
2001 – Boston’s Manny Ramírez hit a bomb in Toronto. The home run, estimated to travel 491 feet, was declared the longest home run in SkyDome history. Ramírez also set records for the most home runs against the Blue Jays in a single season (seven) and number of home runs in one season at the SkyDome (five) with the first inning blast.
1999 – Phil Nevin and Carlos Baerga hit back-to-back pinch-hit home runs in the ninth inning, leading San Diego to a 15-3 victory over Colorado.
1982 – Hall of Famer Tony Pérez, playing for the Red Sox, collected his 2,500th career hit. The benchmark is reached on a single off Milwaukee’s Bob McClure.
