Stories from inside the HOF: Roberto Clemente

Al Campanis, then a scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers, saw an 18-year-old Roberto Clemente play in Puerto Rico and was immediately smitten.

Foreseeing greatness, Campanis graded Clemente A or A+ in almost every category.

But surely, not even Campanis could have predicted then a great career on and off the field for Clemente, the first Latino player inducted in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. This scouting report, which clearly has aged well, is currently on exhibit at Cooperstown.
