A Feel Good Story True Baseball Fans Will Appreciate

This is a story about life, death, honor, fandom and baseball. Its two main characters were born in different eras and in different parts of the world, but now they’re forever linked in a way that can really happen only because of baseball.

A few weeks ago the White Sox lost one of their biggest fans, a south sider named Frank Potucek. He was the figurehead of his family, the elder statesman with wisdom and values and an enormous love for baseball.

His favorite player was Ozzie Guillén, the former White Sox All-Star shortstop and manager of the 2005 World Series Champions. Potucek was more than your typical fan. On his 40th wedding anniversary, he and his wife renewed their wedding vows in the outfield at Comiskey Park while wearing matching No. 13 jerseys. When he recently passed away, his kids invited friends and family to wear Ozzie jerseys and White Sox gear to the wake.

At La Vida Baseball we celebrate this passion for baseball. When Ozzie Guillén Jr. heard about Potucek’s story, he said, “Wow, my dad will want to meet this family!” So with the help of the White Sox, we brought Frank’s family to Guaranteed Rate Field for an interview. Ozzie Jr. then delivered a special guest that we hope celebrates the life of a man who defines not just what it means to be a family man, but a fan.
