2018 La Vida Awards: Best Hair

Wild hair, purple hair, long hair, we don’t care.

The best hair styles of the 2018 season were all unique and different in their own way. From playoff motivation to pineapple inspiration, these three let their individualities shine.

Who’s flow was best this year? Tell us in the comments.

Honorable Mention:
Gerardo Parra

Parra caught our hair attention in 2017, when he colored his hair purple as the Rockies clinched a Wild Card spot and faced the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Since then, we’ve had our eyes on his hair all throughout the 2018 season. He started with silver hair:

“New season, new look” he said on Instagram.

When we asked Parra about his favorite hair color, he said, “purple, because [that means] we make it to the playoffs.”

Will we see more silver or purple next year in 2019 on Parra?

Honorable mention:
Dereck Rodríguez

D-Rod gets our honorable mention for best hair because of his long luscious locks. We first met Dereck last year at his father’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony and he had his hair in a ponytail.

During this season’s Spring Training, his hair was long, and we captured it as he posed for his promotional pictures with the Giants. In late May, when he got called up, he kept the long flow throughout the entire season. Will he keep his hair long as a trademark throughout his career? We hope so.

Winner:
Yuli Gurriel

The older Gurriel brother has the best hair in baseball. He refers to himself as #LaPiña, aka the pineapple, because his hair resembles the leaves of a pineapple – tall, sometimes spikey and flopped over.

As we were deciding on which photos of his piña we liked best, we couldn’t decide. Below are a few that get the thumbs-up.

No phone calls, please

Vamos Piña

Even his teammates love running their fingers through it.
